Beyond the urban nightlife of Las Vegas city streets and downtown gambling, lies a world that celebrates art and beauty. At the famous 18b Art District one can experience the real culture and custom of this legendry town. The district is a main attraction of Downtown Las Vegas for both the locals as well as outsiders. As the name goes, the place features art and entertainment at its best. In the beginning, the district stretched about 18 blocks that fall across Main Street near Charleston Boulevard to Hoover Avenue. Now it has further extended to places around Commerce Street and Fourth Street.

The Art District came to be known as a result of markets that developed around merchandized art forms rendered in this region. Hundreds of art galleries and exhibitions, street shows, antique stores and art supplies dominate the area. Tourists, art lovers, art collectors, and artists frequent this part of Downtown either to shop for exquisite artworks or to simply savor the sight of artistic delights. It is known for its splendid street fair with numerous fast food stalls and barbeques. Its streets crowd up with shoppers, day-trippers and travelers during every occasion and event in Las Vegas. The art fairs and festivals conducted in here bring about thousands of visitors from in and around the city. It is the most colorful spot in Las Vegas where anyone can have a great time with their friends or families without having to spend a fortune at luxury hotels or casinos.

Several cultural groups and societies in the state including the American Institute of Graphic Art have recognized the place and have been partaking in its development. Since October 2002, the authorities declared every First Friday to be celebrated as a grand party across the entire 18 blocks of the Art District. Since this initiation, the popularity of Art District grew beyond the state boundaries. Artists from all over United States reach here to display their talents. Thousands of artists send their works of fine arts and paintings to be selected for exhibitions. The art shows and sales go on till 10 pm in the night but the festivities and partying continues past midnight. Besides the art, the street performances of magic shows and dancers can enchant you beyond your imagination.

It is a grand venue for socializing and meeting new friends and also shopping for designer accessories or paintings at great prices. You can participate and enjoy the First Friday block parties for free but for entering the spot a nominal fee of 2 dollars is levied. It is a cultural event that implores the soul of Las Vegas and is organized in coordination with the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

Art District also houses the famous Art Factory which is a distinguished center for all sorts of artistic relishes ranging from modern art paintings and photography to yoga and dance.

If you’ve never been to Las Vegas (Sin City), then you should know that there are actual rules and laws to be follow while you’re in Sin City. For you veterans, this will be a refresher course. However, remember to keep an open mind: you might just learn something new, because Vegas is forever changing. HAVE FUN!

Take Notes of anything you may want to remember:
Before you arrive…

Do bring money when you come.
Do bring money when you come. “CASH IS KING” in Las Vegas! If you are on a budget, you can survive with just $300-$400 as long as you spend wisely. When I talk about budgeting this means you will just be catching all the “free” shows and missing out on all the other great shows. Please keep in mind that the free shows are not all that bad at all.

Don’t expect to find the same old Las Vegas that you see in old movies portraying Vegas.
Vegas is forever changing. Within the past 10 years or so there have been many locations demolished to make room for new hotels and casinos.

Do plan to get a few great bargains.
For you bargain hunters, there are many old establishments still hanging in there. When I say old establishments, I am talking about downtown Las Vegas and other Hotels/Casinos not located near the main strip. The old establishments of Las Vegas are constantly trying to compete with the dancing fountains of the Bellagio and the spit-fire volcanoes. So how are they still making it? Through the deep discounted dining experiences they offer visitors. In Vegas, you can still find a T-bone steak for $4.95. (You just have to know where to look.)

Don’t come to Vegas during peak times.
Yes, everyone wants to get away during the weekend. But if you’re planning on a weekend trip to Vegas, be ready to spend some extra money. Traveling to Vegas in the middle of the week, Christmas and when conventions are on hiatus, is a great way to enjoy the city without the crowds or the expense. Another great time to visit Vegas, if you can stand the heat, is during the mid-summer, when it’s too hot for most visitors.

Do come to Vegas during peak times.
Yes, come to Las Vegas during peak weekends or holidays if your out to just be surrounded by a lot of positive spirited people. If your like the average party goer then traveling to Las Vegas during peak weekends would be ideal so long as you plan in advance. You can find more details on tips for planning in advance for peak weekends HERE.

Don’t expect to get the most out of your Vegas vacation if you haven’t planned in advance.
Las Vegas is a large city with a lot to choose from — casinos, spas, restaurants, shows. It can be overwhelming. To avoid delays once you arrive in Vegas, plan ahead. Map out where you want to go, see and do while in Sin City. Don’t waste one minute. Once you land, hit the ground running.

Do play the slots
Do find out about the slots available in Las Vegas casinos, as these are the most popular casino games by far and likewise, online slots are a big favourite in online casinos too, and can help you understand how to play the games before your visit.
